Wealth Adviser Laura Lockett talks to MumAbroad Life about working in the finance industry and living in Milan.
What are the main products and services that deVere Italia offer?
At deVere Italia we have a holistic approach to finance and offer a wide range of solutions and services. We focus on personal circumstances and work with clients to reach their financial goals, however big or small.
As a Wealth Adviser what would you say is the most important aspect of your job?
Making sure I am giving my clients the best possible service, keeping in regular contact to ensure they are up to date with all aspects of their portfolio.
Do you work with a local or international clientele?
At deVere Italia, we work with all clients both local and international.
What advice can you give parents thinking of saving for their children’s education?
The earlier you start planning for it, the better. Do your research and ask for help!! The costs of schools and universities can vary drastically, so ensuring you have the right advice and goals is key.
When is the best time to start thinking about a pension plan?
It’s never too early to thinking about one. The sooner you start, the easier it is to get to where you want to be in the future.
If people have left starting a pension to later in life, what are the options?
There are many options available, however it does depend on your personal circumstances. Your best option is to sit down, seek advice and make a plan.
Aside from pensions, what investment plans does deVere offer for retirement?
We have a wide range of options available to all, including saving plans, property & mortgages, tax advice and fintech. We also have our own Cryptocurrency app available for those that want it.
What advice would you give to anyone who is worried about the effect of Brexit on their UK investments?
If you are worrying about the effects it may have on your UK assets, you need to speak to someone and discuss your possible options. The chances are they may have answers that you don’t and vice versa.
What made you chose to live and work in Italy?
I originally lived in Malta and came to Italy for a holiday. I fell in love with the culture and the food. Milan also has direct flights to Cardiff which is a bonus for me.
The finance industry has traditionally been a male dominated profession. Has that been a hurdle for you in your chosen career?
No, whilst it is still quite male dominated, I believe in myself and am very confident in my ability to succeed. I think my degree in Maths helps and gives me more credibility.
Are there successful female role models within your organisation?
Yes, there are many, not just in the Milan office but globally as well. And luckily I’ve had the pleasure to meet the majority of them.
What is the expat community like in Milan?
The expat community in Milan is vast. It’s a large multicultural city, with many different walks of life. There is always an event or get together to help meet with like minded people and even an English pub quiz.
What do you love about living in Milan?
I love the fact that it’s a city, but close enough to the mountains and lakes to escape from the busy city life. Also the fashion, it’s great to see all the different styles that the people wear in Milan.
Where are your favourite haunts?
I love the rugby, so when a rugby match is on, I always go to a pub called Pogue Mahones. I love to try out new restaurants and I’ve recently started rock climbing.
If people want to find out more about your services what should they do?
